    • Lolapps Launches Critter Island, a Polished Tourist Sim Game for Facebook

August 27th, 2010 - by Inside Social Games

The latest game from LOLapps is out, an island management game called Critter Island. It’s the company’s first title since early this year, and a significant step away from its earlier brand-oriented games.

Critter Island is quite similar, in its broad objectives, to plenty of other island games. You start out with a small parcel of land, which needs to be filled with businesses and attractions to make incoming tourists happy. However, the smaller details and grace notes of the game make it clear that LOLapps has paid close attention to how social games are evolving. Read full article

    • Critter Island: LOLapps launches island management game August 20th, 2010 - by Games.com

LOLapps is a large application developer, but they haven't had a breakout hit game -- yet. They're looking to change that with its new island resort management game, Critter Island. This game takes some of the best mechanics from similar games and combines them to make something that is a fresh take on an old theme.

In Critter Island, the main goal is to keep an island resort chock full of happy tourists, grow the resort population, and decorate to your heart's content. In that regard, it's similar in objective to Crowdstar's Happy Island and a few other island games out there. Read full article

June 18th, 2010 - by Inside Social GamesWe’ve been watching San Francisco developer LOLapps with interest since the company decided last year to focus on games over its highly successful user-generated quiz business. While it hasn’t had a massive hit gaming yet, LOLapps has produced a few solid successes to date.

Several of these have been in conjunction with big brands. Last December, the company published Dante’s Inferno on Facebook to help hype up Electronic Arts’ release of the console version several months later. At the time, it looked like a possible template for future collaboration between social and traditional game companies. Read full article

LOLapps is also a strong player in the social RPG space, partnering with IP companies such as EA and Modelina, which we covered here, to launch and maintain branded games. The latest to come from LOLapps is a virtual gardening game called Garden Life, their first of next generation, isometric flash games. Read full article

Kavin Stewart of LOLapps articulated the state of development on Facebook effectively when he suggested that with the ongoing changes on the Platform, it’s necessary to “keep your chin up”, as developers have historically figured out a way to continue growing.
